#GoodNews: Coastal Empire United Way
United Way of the Coastal Empire launched the Covid-19 Rapid Response Fund by releasing $80,000 on March 24th with a goal of raising $200,000 to help meet the sudden needs of the coastal region’s community during the Coronavirus pandemic. 100% of donations are being used to help those in our community with critical financial needs. Specifically the fund assists families who have been financially impacted during the national crisis by “helping them pay rent, mortgage, and utility bills when no grace period is offered.” Additionally, the fund assists with critical financial needs such as medical expenses and childcare.
As of April 1st, United Way has raised just under $120,000 with 77 donors. “In less than a week, the United Way 211 helpline and our community service centers in Bryan, Effingham, and Liberty counties received more than 1,200 calls – four times the normal amount. [They] have expanded…211 hours, cross-trained more…staff, and trained nearly 20 volunteers from United Way funded agencies to help process requests for assistance.”
