What is a Girls Who Code Club?
Girls Who Code Clubs are meant for girls to join a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models, and use Computer Science to change the world. Volunteer instructors provide a learning environment where young women are introduced to fundamental principles, technologies and skills associated with computer programming and Internet technologies.
When you join a Club, you will be able to learn from fun and simple online coding tutorials, build community through interactive activities and learn about inspiring role models. You then work in teams to design and build a Girls Who Code Project that solves real-world problems you care about through code!
Girls Who Code Savannah is a program of the larger, national Girls Who Code organization that has over 8,500 programs worldwide. Their mission is to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does.
Can I join Savannah’s Girls Who Code Club?
Clubs are for young women attending public middle school (grades 6-8) in Chatham County. Whether you’re a beginner or a computer master, you’re invited to join the movement.
When and where are the next club sessions?
Girls Who Code returns to Savannah in 2021! The club involves 5 sessions meeting on Saturdays at 2:30pm at 2 E. Bryan Street in downtown Savannah:
September 25th
October 2nd
October 16th
October 30th
November 13th
What will I need to participate?
A parent or guardian’s permission.
Because space for this program is limited, Girls Who Code Savannah asks that those interested in participating make a commitment to attending all eight sessions. If an interested party cannot be present for all sessions due to other commitments or conflicts, we ask that you please wait until the next round of sessions is offered and allow someone who can fully participate in the program an opportunity for acceptance in this round of sessions.
After registering, you will be required to sign a contract establishing your commitment to the program.
Where do I sign up?
To keep the student to instructor ratio manageable and as educational as possible for club members, Girls Who Code Savannah has a limited capacity. While not everyone who registers will be able to participate in this round, registrants who apply after capacity is reached will be put on a waitlist and notified when registration is open for the next round of sessions.
After you have submitted your form, the Girls Who Code Savannah team will be in touch to notify you of your acceptance in the program or if you are waitlisted for the next round. They will also send you a contract at that time. Please note that you may not receive an immediate response.
