Workforce & Training

WorkFORCE

Employees for hire? Look no further. Savannah is the regional hub of an 11-county labor draw area. The area, within a 45- minute drive, has a population of 642,155 and a labor pool of 294,680. Our workforce is as diversified as our economy, from software developers to freight handlers.

The unemployment rate in Savannah is consistently lower than the national average, but the underemployment rate is high. According to a study conducted by the Georgia Southern University Bureau of Business Research and Economic Development, approximately 9 percent of the local workforce is underemployed – a great indicator for growth.

The Savannah office of the Georgia Department of Labor will recruit, screen, and refer applicants free of charge to your specifications. There are 17 colleges and universities in the Savannah area cranking out over 5,000 graduates every year in digital media, computer arts, engineering, economics, etc. And, once these grads sample life in Savannah, they rarely want to leave.

We are also fortunate to have a large military population at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. Approximately 4,500 of these highly skilled and disciplined workers transition out of the military each year and enter the civilian labor pool. There are close to 36,000 military dependents, many of whom also contribute to our workforce.
