The Savannah College of Art and Design announces “Handmade at SCAD,” its inaugural offering of community education workshops open to the general public in Savannah, Jan. 24-March 21. The workshop series focuses on contemporary craft and is open to participants ages 15 and up, with creative skills and techniques taught by SCAD graduate students and alumni.

Registration for the winter series of workshops is now open to learners at all levels, and most do not require prior experience. Costs range from $55 to $145 depending on materials, with all materials provided at the workshop. Class sizes are small to provide more individual attention. Early registration is encouraged.

“Handmade at SCAD” Winter Workshops

Freestyle Embroidery II

Saturday, Feb. 7, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Cost: $65

Create small, mixed media stitchery with inspiration from landscapes, wildflowers or leaves. Experiment with couching, cross-stitch, crewel, embroidery, beading, appliqué, gold work and stump work. Stitch and play with many different threads and surprising natural materials to find your favorites. Basic experience with embroidery recommended.
